This page book, beautifully illustrated with over color photographs, covers a myriad of topics on orchid culture. Topics include specific information on popular orchid groups, repotting, orchid mounting, growing orchids semi-hydroponically, as well as a section on common orchid pests and diseases. The American Orchid Society was worried about the orchid poaching-case; if Laroche and the Seminoles were found innocent, it could start a run on orchids growing on public land everywhere.

Based on the text of the family Orchidaceae published in The European Garden Flora II, this book provides botanists and orchid growers with a means for the identification of orchid species in general cultivation. The main part of the text (updated and with an improved layout) consists of Pages: Expanded from a New Yorker article, this long-winded if well-informed tale has less to do with John Laroche, the “thief,” than it does with our author’s desire to craft a comprehensive natural and social history of what the Victorians called “orchidelirium.” Orlean (Saturday Night, ) piles anecdote upon detail upon anecdote—and keeps on piling them. Laroche, who managed a plant.

The Orchid Thief Summary. One day, journalist Susan Orlean reads an article about the arrest of John Laroche, a white man accused of stealing plants from the Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve. New York Times bestselling author Stuart Woods delivers a riveting thriller that introduces an exciting addition to the pantheon of fictional sleuths.. Forced into early retirement at thirty-seven, smart, attractive, and fiercely independent Major Holly Barker trades in her bars as a military cop for the badge of deputy chief of police in Orchid Beach, Florida.

Purple Orchids (A Mitchell Sisters Novel) - Kindle edition by Christy, Samantha. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets.

Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading Purple Orchids (A Mitchell Sisters Novel)/5(K). Absolutely my favorite, most useful book on orchids. It has helped me go from a beginner orchid grower with about 10 plants to very experienced and knowledgeable, with about + orchids in 2 different locations of my home, one for cool growing, miniature cloud forest species and the other for larger, warmer and light loving by: 7.

This orchid book is ideal for the beginning orchid grower. As with all of the “Dummies” books, the details are outstanding while the information is presented in an easy-to-understand manner. For example, one of the interesting facts presented within the book is that there were million orchids sold in the United States in the last year.

The full details of each orchid book review is shown below: Orchid Book Review: Orchid Growers Companion. Author: David Banks. At over pages the Orchid Growers Companion by David Banks has a great range of information for orchid lovers.

50% of the pages are dedicated to orchid care advice, the other half is a directory of orchid species. Empress Orchid is the first book in a duology which follows Orchid Yehonala, or better known as Empress Dowager Cixi. In this first book we see her life as a young and poor Manchu girl, and how she decides to compete to become one of the Emperor's wives/5.

I read The Wild Orchid by Cameron Dokey back in April for the Dewey Readathon. This young adult book retells the ballad of Mulan. Its a bit more in-depth than the Disney film but lacking the awesome songs (and yes I totally have Be A Man on my iPod).

Set in Imperial China, Mulan is tough as nails/5. ORCHIDS Basic Orchid Culture. Knowing which orchid you are trying to grow is your key to its cultural requirements. Orchids, like all plants, need a balance of light, air, water and food to grow and flower well.

Let's examine each of these elements. ABOVE: Two Cattleya plants grown under different lighting conditions. Orchid is the follow up book to the futuristic stories Amaryllis and Zinnia, in the off world old Earth colony of Harmony on the planet of St.

Fertilisation of Orchids is a book by English naturalist Charles Darwin published on 15 May under the full explanatory title On the Various Contrivances by Which British and Foreign Orchids Are Fertilised by Insects, and On the Good Effects of Intercrossing.

Darwin's previous book, On the Origin of Species, had briefly mentioned evolutionary interactions between insects and the plants Author: Charles Darwin. The orchid festival is back, celebrating the magnificent biodiversity of Indonesia, the land of 17, islands.

The Orchid Whisperer is an eminently intelligent and attractive book for beginning orchid growers. While not actually advocating muttering at plants (at least not as an active growing tool), it presents plenty of easy-to-understand advice to get novice growers on the road to success. A well written orchid book should thoroughly explore each of the popular genera and at least mention the lesser known types so the grower has something to strive for.

Not just Phalaenopsis and Paphiopedilums, but also Angraecums, Masdevallias, and Zygopetalums. So, before writing this book, we initiated a massive research project and interviewed over orchid growers ( to be exact) - from complete "newbies" to seasoned experts - to find out exactly what information would be most valuable in a comprehensive "how-to" book about orchids.

Orchid Ha Long Cruise is the leading of luxury 5-star cruises level in Ha Long Bay & is a totally BRAND NEW ones with the highest level of ship's friendship environment as well as finest cruise to exceed your highest expectation about Ha Long bay cruises/10().

Orchid Beach by Stuart Woods is the first of several books involving his character Holly Barker & her dog Daisy.

I found the book to be a quick and exciting read. The characters are well developed & the plot unusual. I really enjoyed the book.5/5(5). Orchid - Our Story.
